As the BioPod relies on aerobic decomposition it produces negligible amounts of methane. This is supported by a University Doctoral Research that showed that Biolytix treats sewage and food waste without methane emissions. (University of Queensland doctoral research dissertation - M. Taylor, W. Clarke, Professor P. Greenfield - unpublished).
Anaerobic bacteria which is present in septic tanks produces methane and hydrogen sulphide. These gases are toxic and foul smelling. In fact, methane is 21 times more damaging as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
I like the idea that little animals are working away to change my waste into clean water to build a better micro environment for them and, a bonus in a five year drought, my plants. I have a little green oasis in dry paddocks. The fact that I am caring for the worms’ welfare reminds me and helps to educate friends that it matters what goes into the pipes.
