After the effluent is treated naturally by the BioPod, it collects at the bottom of the tank. Here it is kept aerobic by a tiny air pump that only uses 0.12 kWh per day - about the same as a fish tank pump. This is very low compared to the energy use of the pumps and blowers of mechanically aerated systems. Of the 16 wastewater treatment competitors we researched, the BioPod used up to 90% less energy than each of them. The BioPod is a product designed for an energy-wise future. Like solar power, it is leading the worldwide trend towards using nature to do the work, not machinery.
These systems are one of the household's most energy-hungry products. The aerators typically consume between 2.5 to 10 kWh per day (that is 20-80 times more energy than the BioPod). When membranes are part of the system their energy use can increase dramatically.
In Australia, each kWh of energy consumed is equivalent to about 1 kg of carbon dioxide emitted. This means that by using a Biopod, you could reduce your carbon footprint by at least 1 tonne each year.
My Biolytix does everything I want a wastewater system to do. I like that its silent, that it never smells and is chemical-free. I don't have big electricity bills. I don't have to bother much about what goes down my drains - the washing machine is on, the kids are in the bath and I'm in the shower and I know the system will cope. Servicing isn't a hassle because its only once a year and there are no disgusting pump outs. My Biolytix is easy to live with. I'm definitely a satisfied customer.
